OUR STORY
ABOUT K&M SILK
Hello friends and family,
My Name is Catherine Ngo (A.k.a. Mai Ngo). I am a nurse and founder of K&M Silk. Born and raised in Vietnam, my hometown was close to Ha Dong (Ha Noi), the oldest silk production village in Vietnam.
My love for silk started when I was younger. The smooth texture, shine, and soft elegance are reasons I love silk; not to mention the many benefits for your hair and skin. Growing up poor I was not able to afford silk clothing. Over time, the silk industry evolved, and it became more affordable to all; evolving technology and machinery works contributed to affordability.
As a teenager, I considered myself very blessed and fortunate to have the opportunity to immigrate to America as a refugee. There are so many people that are less fortunate than me and still struggle every day through life. I wanted to bring the beautiful goods made in Vietnam to my many generous friends and make the goods available for consumption while benefiting people in Vietnam by creating jobs and opportunities. Why not bring some silk from my childhood to America benefiting consumers and producers? This led to my husband and I creating our company K&M Silk.
My commitment is to use 20% of profit from K&M Silk to help poor kids in the rural areas in Vietnam. Proceeds will help support clothing, food, school fees, and help build schools closer to those kids who must walk miles to get to school every day.
My business is still at its infantry level, and your support means so much to me. I still remember being poor and having only one good set of clothing to wear to school. When I was sick with a fever, my mom changed my clothes and put on my school shirt that I hung separately in a special place in my house. Half awake, I thought my mom just bought me a new shirt. I was so happy, but as soon as I realized that it was my school shirt, I changed it out immediately to avoid soiling my only school shirt.
I hope with our effort, there will be fewer kids who must go through the same thing that I did. Thank you to all my friends and family who have believed, trusted, and supported me from the beginning of this journey. I will do my best to make the business grow.
Your support will forever be remembered and treasured.
